Should youth hockey players play other sports?

Certain parents focus solely on hockey training for their kids. However, I believe it can be very beneficial for youth hockey players to participate in other sports in addition to hockey. This is especially true for the off-ice summer period. Playing other sports helps players to develop a range of skills and abilities that can be transferred to the ice. This includes for example coordination, agility, and teamwork.

Some sports are more suitable for hockey players than others. Below are my top 3 that may be particularly beneficial for youth hockey players. In any case, kids go out, do any sports or fun activity that makes you move.

  1. Soccer: Soccer can help hockey players develop their footwork, balance, and coordination.

  2. Basketball: Basketball can help hockey players develop their hand-eye coordination, quickness, and agility.

  3. Tennis: Tennis can help hockey players develop their hand-eye coordination, footwork, and agility.

By playing a variety of sports, youth hockey players can develop a range of skills and abilities that may help them become well-rounded athletes. Simply consult with your coach or a sports trainer to determine which sports may be most beneficial for your specific development. Or feel free to reach out to me...
